Summer 2020 Free Book Giveaway
We are ready to head into the summer break. If you’re a physical therapist or another health professional, you can probably relate to how challenging the last few months have been and, in some ways, still are. If you look back, we’ve been through the rise of a pandemic with an infectious agent many countries and states went on lockdown or stayed home orders. Along with that, there was social distancing, mandatory mask-wearing, schools and businesses closed, things came to a halt. As professionals, we had to deal with clinics closing and the decrease of new patients and existing patients that weren’t coming in.
There was the complete movement over to Telehealth all of a sudden that the whole world opened up to us. We had to learn how to set up Telehealth, how to deliver effective care via Telehealth, how to charge and bill for Telehealth and where we even be receiving money and reimbursement for the services we’re offering? We’re starting to look at how do we prevent this disease and how do we care for people in the long-term who are recovering from this all in the midst of the ever-important racial, ethnic, and social disparities that are more palpable in our society, especially in the United States than ever. When we look back for me because I live in New York City, this started in March and I have to exhale and take a step back.
As practitioners, we have accomplished a lot of change in a short period of time. I’ll admit it’s been hard to focus on business during this time when there are all harbors that are unfolding on the news. Homeschooling is happening trying to make sure everything’s getting done with the kids if you have kids and then try and keep everyone busy in a positive way. In fact, when this went down, I told my team, “Don’t expect anything majorly strategic to get completed during this time.” If you’re reading this, I’m thrilled to be offline, giving myself and my team some space to complete some projects and finish up important projects as we move on through the summer and into the fall. I’m doing something a little different, I’m recording a short show and a big thank you for those of you who have been loyal readers and new readers, and I’m delighted.
We received many messages from practitioners, as well as people with pain from around the globe that have discovered us while we’ve been in lockdown. That’s great to hear that people are tuning in and downloading many who have also been leaving us reviews on iTunes, which we especially appreciate because it helps to show in a number of ways. The first way is that when there are positive reviews, it gives new readers who are considering downloading the show, the confidence to try it out. I know you look at reviews also when you look at other shows. When you go look at a new show, the first thing you probably do is look at how positive the reviews are. The second is it gives the more exclusive guests who are trying to dominance show the confidence to say yes.
Number three, it helps with our rankings in iTunes, the categories and the algorithms of these things that seem to change minute by minute. The show usually hangs around the Top 50 in certain health-related categories on iTunes, which is great for new readers to discover. You may be listening to the show on other platforms. We’re also on Spotify, Stitcher, Pandora, and a few others. I don’t even know why, but we focus a lot on iTunes because that’s where we’re mostly discovered. I know many of you have already left us a review. Thank you for that. If you have not, I want to sweeten the deal a little bit for you. If you go to iTunes and leave us a five-star review and say something nice about the show, then I will send you a free copy of my book, Heal Your Pain Now: The Revolutionary Program to Reset Your Brain and Body for a Pain-Free Life. I want to mail that to you and they’re going to be on a first come first serve basis.
I’ll tell you how to do this but first, I want to give you a quick update on some of the great things we have that are coming up on the show. The Healing Pain Podcast is now going into its fourth year. I can’t even believe it’s been four years of releasing a new episode each week. We can relate this back to the book because I started the show shortly before I released my book, Heal Your Pain Now and it’s growing. There are people with pain who follow the show who are looking to overcome pain and learn about pain. It’s become a living pain education guide for people. There are practitioners who tune in each week, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, physicians, and health coaches. I’ve been doing this since 2016 and I’m going to say we because I have a great team and I’m eternally grateful to all the support they provide in the background.
Thank you to them. They get to show up flawlessly onto multiple platforms each week. There’s all technical detail that I’m not even privy to that happened in the background to deliver to you each week. A huge thank you to them, but the show started as a passion project for me. It was a way to provide safe, effective, and evidence-based pain education for people living with pain, as well as practitioners. In the beginning, I was a little more focused on pain and opioids because back in 2016, the opioid epidemic was in full swing. Thankfully that’s quieted down somewhat, but it’s still an important topic on the show, but the show has evolved into full biopsychosocial training on effective ways to cope with and overcome pain.
The audience has started to shift, not just for people with pain, but the practitioners who treat them. In years, I’ve been creating content specifically for training resources and material for practitioners. If you’ve been following along, you know we first released the Functional Nutrition for Chronic Pain Practitioner Certification Program. There was Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Chronic Pain. There was ACT for pain exposure. When COVID started, we released our Telehealth training platform with a HIPAA Compliance, Zoom Telehealth feature. Finally, somewhere within a couple of months, we conducted a pilot study and looked at the physical therapist, Perceptions of Learning and Implementing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to Treat Chronic Pain. That was a pilot study of the Integrative Pain Science Institute experience for the professionals who completed that program.
We had some amazing results. Over 95% of the course participants reported that ACT helped them develop a psychologically informed approach to pain. It was easy to implement in physical therapy practice. It helped improve their patient outcomes. It also helped with professional burnout, which is a great bonus. All of that has happened and all courses at the Integrated Pain Science Institute are accredited for continuing education. Courses are accredited for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant see use the Integrated Pain Science Institute is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for a psychologist. All courses meet the suggested requirements for consumer education for occupational therapists, as outlined by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. The Integrated Pain Science Institute is recognized and proved by the National Board of Health & Wellness Coaching as an approved continuing education provider.
Finally, we released the Pain Specialist Coach Certification Program for licensed health professionals and certified health coaches. Before we do that, we’ll take a little breather for the summer and we’ll enjoy some sun, barbecue, family, friends and a little bit of trail running in the mountains. A few days on the beach, some biking, some gardening, that’s a shortlist of the things I plan to do while I’m offline. I have to tell you out of all the things I do on a weekly basis, recording the show has become one of my favorite things and when I look back on my career, one of the most exciting and interesting things I’ve done throughout my entire career. The topics we cover, the people we meet the evolution of how this has grown from something that was basic into something that’s become amazing and incredible.
Even if the show never aired publicly, I have to tell you that I love these guests and I love these conversations so much. I continue to have them, even if they were offline. This summer and into the fall, I’d like to give you a quick preview and a nice mix of what we have in store. Coming up, we’ve got more training, topics, and strategies with regard to the biopsychosocial model of pain care, functional nutrition, acceptance, commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, lifestyle and we’ll be doing some specific show where I’ll share training on techniques. You can take right to the clinic and you can use stay tuned for that more toward the end of the year. Finally, we’ll transition a little bit to some of the more practical business advice for those of you who are running a clinic or starting a clinic, getting Telehealth up and running coaching courses, even how to grow a killer team that will support your business.
We’ve got a great late summer and early fall lineup. If you’re reading and you’re not subscribed, please subscribe. This means when the show comes out, they appear in your app and ready for you to download. You can read them. I know a lot of you binge listen to the shows. You have to do that when you’re in the gym or maybe on a longer car ride. I’ve also got some emails from practitioners that mentioned. They’ve used some of the episodes for in services in the clinic. They keep the show playing in the background in the clinic office, or even in the physical therapy gym, which is a great way to deliver some pain education to your patients. I love that idea. I know why you’re reading. It’s for the free gift. I’ll start to make my way in that direction.
This is our summer 2020 Healing Pain Podcast, free book giveaway. My team and I were chatting and we were saying, “How cool is it when we receive emails from people who have either read the book or practitioners who are using the book in practice?” At the private practice section of the American Physical Therapy Association meeting, where I was speaking, I ran into a practitioner who keeps a book in each of her clinic office rooms. It’s earmarked so she can open to it and share certain lessons or techniques with patients in the clinic. I thought that was cool but we realized we don’t have any show swag. We need some swag to give away.
I thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if we can send some free copies of the books to readers? Why don’t we put together some type of free giveaway that includes the book?” That’s what we did. We anticipate that these books will go in a matter of a couple of days. We’re doing this again because we know that you love the show and we want to sweeten the deal a little bit and give you a big, thank you for taking a few minutes to leave a review. I know it may take you a few minutes to figure this out f you haven’t done it before and it’s important to us.
This is my little extra way to sweeten the pot. We’ve got 50 books and we’re ready to ship them out. The reviews do help us with exposure, credibility, and ranking and we appreciate this so much. There are a few steps it’s not complicated, but I don’t want to go into them on the show. We’ve listed them out on an easy web page. When you go to www.IntegrativePainScienceInstitute.com/giveaway, you’ll be able to read all the details. Go to that URL and click there. What you’re going to do is go to Apple Podcasts, leave us a five-star review and say something nice. When you fill out the form, include all your information, as well as your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram handle. What my team will do is they will go through that. They’ll match the review to the person who fills out the form with their handles. We know exactly who’s filling the format.
We know who to send the book to and that it’s legit. I’m sure that it makes sense too. Read the instructions there and go to that link. By the way, if you have left us a review in the past, you can still enter. I want to give you a big, thank you for leaving us a review we can still send you a book. If you’re a new reader or a new subscriber who leaves us that review, you will receive one as well, but we only have a box of 50 books. We’re going to keep this limited edition. That’s it for this giveaway. It’s a great resource. Whether you are a practitioner or you’re someone overcoming chronic pain, you can place them in your clinic, in the waiting room, or next to your bedside stand to read each night. I know we have a lot of international followers. I want to give you a big shutout and a big thank you so much for following the show and leaving us a review.
Unfortunately, at this time, we can only mail books within the continent of United States but if you leave us a review, we’ll be grateful. We’ll share the reviews online. We’ll make sure to tag you in upcoming promotions. That’s it. That’s where I need you to submit. We get all pitches and things coming at us and every which way, things can get a little bit messy. We have this form. There’s a process things don’t get lost, make sure we get the information we received it properly and it’s efficient. We appreciate it. The contact page to fill out the form is IntegrativePainScienceInstitute.com/giveaway. I hope to see your review come in so I can send you these books. Thank you so much for helping out and following the show and making it everything I dreamed it would be. I’ll be back online with a fantastic new episode. In the meantime, if you have any questions, reach out to my support team at [email protected]. Take care and I’ll see you.
