Why this course?

How Mindfulness-Based Pain Relief can enhance your practice

Earn 15 CEUs and Become Certified in Mindfulness-Based Pain Relief

Empower your patients to alleviate pain utilizing their greatest tool – the mind.

Mindfulness is not only a practice – it is a state of awareness, a behavioral trait,
an intervention, an act of self-care, and a way of living that can dramatically
shift the nervous system toward homeostasis, or a state of internal equilibrium.
Reduced pain, depression, anxiety, and distress are some common observed
benefits of mindfulness interventions.

Research shows even just a few minutes of practice has substantial impact.
And, exercises can be practiced anytime, anywhere. For these reasons,
mindfulness-based pain relief can be easily adapted into a variety of pain
care practices.

Course Description

Mindfulness-Based Pain Relief is an 7-week online course designed to teach practitioners the necessary experiential skills and tools to guide their patients through training in mindfulness-based pain reduction.

Mindfulness meditation has been found to significantly reduce pain in experimental and clinical settings, along with associated anxiety, depression and stress. The primary processes of the positive health behavior changes and outcomes that occur through mindfulness training is through the enhancement of self-report measures of mindfulness, self-efficacy, pain acceptance, social connectedness, and improvements in physiological measures like heart rate variability.

Participants will also learn to cultivate compassion within themselves, to make these elements accessible while engaging with their clients/patients, and to learn, and self-compassion. The benefits of compassion cultivation include reduced defensiveness, improved listening skills, and improved ability to decode facial expressions and body language. All of these attributes can serve a role in establishing a stronger therapeutic alliance, enhancing patient autonomy and treatment adherence, and reducing the inherent vulnerability of clinicians to “empathy fatigue” including stress and professional burnout.
