Healing Pain with Light

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Welcome back to the Healing Pain Summit. I am your host, Dr. Joe Tatta. Thank you for continuing to be a part of the summit today. We are continuing the conversation on detoxification and how it relates to pain with Connie. Zack. Connie is the co-owner of Sunlighten Incorporated a business she founded in the basement of her home in 1999 in 2006 Connie was recognized as the top 25 high, highest ranked women by the Kansas city business journal and she does a nine honored by the women’s foundation of Kansas City. Sunlighten has been featured on Dr. Oz as well as Oprah and has been recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine’s list of bringing companies to watch and inc 500 magazines, America’s fastest-growing companies. In 2008 Connie opened Sunlighten day spa located at Sunlighten’s headquarters to the public sunlight and day spa focuses on holistic healing with services revolving around rejuvenation and detoxification to help promote healthy living. Connie, Zack, welcome to the Healing Pain Summit 2.0 it’s a pleasure to have you on the second episode this year.

Connie Zack:                 Thank you.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                So it’s a doctorate, physical therapy. I’m always interested in learning about new ways that we can help our patients, you know, heal from pain. Um, and you know, way back in physical therapy school, when I was there over 25 years ago, we learned about some types of modalities that involved heat, light, sound. Um, you worked for a company called Sunlighten spas. So please tell us about Sunlighten spas and what they’re all about.

Connie Zack:                 Sunlighten was developed 16 years ago. My brother was extremely ill on his deathbed and on his dental spa recommended the heat, the type of heat we have today in our products that killed him and he was able to fully recover and now live a wonderful life. And at that time I decided to make a leap from my corporate world. I was working at Proctor and Gamble and it’s not going to help the world be a healthier place. And so our mission is to making sure that we have been in the world healthier. Then we started and we do that through our loans products. Most of them being in infrared.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                So your product is works on the infrared spectrum, basically.

Connie Zack:                 Yes. We have two different types of products. We started originally when my brother was really sick and we only really knew about one way, which is a foreign friend wavery and then not 10 years ago, came to us and said, listen, a lot of advantages and the other two wavelengths met in the year. You actually investigate some things. A leader in this space and said, that’s my dad and dad, and we developed another product.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                So tell us how Sunline spas are different than another spa that someone might find, let’s say in their health club where they’re a gym or you know what a spa on vacation, what’s, what’s the difference between them?

Connie Zack:                 Yeah, so a lot of heat is most heat that you would use and your jab keeps the air around you and so you get hot because your air, the air is hot. Heat is a healing foods that penetrates into the body to transform and change the body from the inside out. So you’re not just letting water, you’re slanting toxins and your sweat is fused and you burn a lot more calories and heal yourself naturally and safely. So the main difference is we provide more, Oh, the infrared spectrum than any other product on the market. So you may see some stuff on Amazon that Vermont’s and self with infrared sauna. The differences, they have much less infrared and much more convectional heat Sunlighten is filtered up all that connection with heat. We’re almost a hundred percent farm for or three in one infrared into your body so you get more imprint into your body anywhere else. And it’s enlightened, really the biggest bang for your buck.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Yeah. Um, for as a physical therapist, I have to say it’s so interesting because, um, years ago therapists don’t really use them so much anymore, but we would use hot packs on people to help them relax and to let their muscles relax and to get them prepared for, you know, a session, so to speak. But the truth is hot packs really only only penetrate just the top layer of the dermis of the skin. So even though it feels good, you’re not getting any kind of physiologic benefit from it. But you’re saying is that your product is able to penetrate through the layers of skin into deeper into tissues to actually change the metabolism.

Connie Zack:                 Exactly. It will. So what we have in the three in one, we’ll depth to that for a second cause again I put here two different types of products. One is the form for which is really do energy work, increase in core temperature, change your body from the inside out. We have another product that so much of what you just talked about that has all three wavelengths that penetrate the body at three different levels because like getting a nonsteroidal anti inflammatory product but in a natural way without changing your liver, without changing other parts of your body very safely. So we have the near infrared that just focuses on the top of the surface layer of the skin. The men in Franco… Some tissues and even studies on that increase in flexibility, inclusive mobility,… theme so that you can move better. I know as part of the summit and then the farms were rad, which goes in speaking to the audience, transforms and change the body changes the body from the inside.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                So are those the, the near the far in the mid of those, um, contained in one device, are they in different devices?

Connie Zack:                 So we have in the fall the brand new, it’s called the impulses of three in one all the way around you, you have the farm thread, you’re, you’re completely encompassed with this very feeling wavelength of the for it. And then there’s also separate meeting venues that deliver the mid infrared and then have LEDs because near infrared is too odd to deliver effectively. You couldn’t deliver them minor way that you won’t get the optimal penetration. So we have these really powerful LEDs that are inside the unit is lost. So you have three separate heating venues. And then we also developed seven programs on the software tablet. So you’re sitting in there, and I just did this this morning, um, I’m doing some training. My husband’s doing it. I am inserting, it’s on the long side. And so I was in there this morning, um, during the program, cause I have a very long run tomorrow for marathon for you.

Connie Zack:                 And you just press that button and it fires up a blend of the mid near and farm for red to decrease inflammation. So that’s the other thing I love is we’re all so busy and we don’t have more time. That’s the one thing that we want more of. And this product takes your time and it makes it efficient because when you’re in there based on the different program, you’re focusing on what you’re trying to achieve. And so will your press opinion only program it has certain intervals and focus on the body when you’re done, you’ve done a tremendous healing or your body as far as inflammation all over.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Interesting. So I want to get back to some of those protocols and how much time someone spends in a, in a, in a Sunline and how it works. But you know, I think as on this, on this summit we have clinicians as well as um, people who are looking for pain relief obviously, but the clinicians always want to know a little bit about the research has been studying how does it work? Exactly. So tell us about some of the things that you’ve done, um, to study how the effect of it, the effectiveness of, of the product

Connie Zack:                 we did 10 years ago, a study with the university of Missouri, Kansas city on Moring on general health. And that’s what we found as a result of it was that our product significantly lowers blood pressure. And then we’ve also done other studies position in Canada that study weight loss and belly fat and show the significant reduction in knowledge that if they’re using our products. What’s really nice is all the studies have been done with our technology. Once we discovered the results, we patented it our technology so that our customers could have peace of mind that they weren’t getting an imitation. If they go to Amazon, they’re getting another, actually getting the original product to deliver the results. So it’s really important because when you’re talking about your body and you know therapists here trying to make change and you want to make sure that your clients are getting the results that they’re looking for and not wasting more time or energy on products that don’t work.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Yeah. I know one of the studies that you have looks at range of motion in the spa. Can you tell us about that?

Connie Zack:                 Yeah, we did a study with Auburn university. It’s one of my favorites and focusing on your joints and your tissues and mobility. And so that just added up a very brief amount of time. They were able to increase range of motion, flexibility and that is Iceland. You know, cause it’s so hard is you know you’re trying to stay fit but then you also have to worry about injuries and muscle recovery. So it’s really nice to be able to have something that you can do in the comfort of your own home and only have to spend 30 minutes. It’s not like you’re asking for time.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                So do you recommend people to actually stretch or do some range of motion exercises, whether in the spa they wait till after the treatment is done or how does that work?

Connie Zack:                 You both. You can do both. I like to do it inside, like feel that and I can feel my body changing one in there. I use a phonic enhancement, it’s called acoustic Westland therapy. It’s a sound therapy they use this morning too by gently vibrate your body and while you’re gently vibrating your body through them. Also the thing to acoustic music that’s engineered to balance the brainwaves. What happens is if for example, I’m anxious about this long runs on my longest run ever and so I can already feel, and I talked about and you can see my solar, so when I’m in the I turn on the therapy, Oh my. It just immediately your shoulders draw, the body starts to loosen up and so then now I’m also using the…program. I’m getting it in here and then the farm read different wavelengths into my body. I feel my body searches so I might as well. I honestly might as well start to like do some real liquid stretches and try and increase mobility while I’m in there. And then I’ll continue stretching when I get out. But I like to definitely get it started while I’m inside.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                That’s pretty amazing. So basically you can leverage almost three types of healings so you can be in there leveraging the infrared, um, the effects of sound as well as someone actually moving their body and working their tissues, you know, mechanically so to speak.

Connie Zack:                 Yeah, that’s a really great point.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Yeah. And so tell us about the type of people and the stories you have of people, you know, um, having a benefit from the spa. What types of conditions, diagnoses, you mentioned obviously athletes I think is incredible. A of athletes struggle with diverse types of injuries and tendon injuries, tendonitis, um, you know, types of joint pains. But what about the more kind of chronic conditions?

Connie Zack:                 We have a lot of people who suffer from toxic overload. A lot of Lyme patients, auto immune conditions that use our product because it’s extremely effective and efficient at moving toxic elements. We have a many doctors that are reported to us when they’ve done tests before and after using our product, a significant increase in release, um, um, different types of toxins, the body a lot like that are connected to mold for example. And so we able to put these people back on a road to recovery. Those are suffering from OG and brain and just really horrible things like my brother was sick from for years. And it’s just horrible to watch somebody you love. And that’s our number one result. And the number one reason people come to sunlight is one of those types of popsicles or any of those disease States.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Yeah, I know a lot of functional medicine practitioners are recommending it for detoxification, especially around the realm of toxins. And those obviously are, you know, toxins in our environment. Most of them are from pollutants. So I know it, it works well. Um, cause you, I know like if she’s in bed and on my summit as well as dr Ann Shippy, uh, both use it with their patients as well as I do as well. Um, tell us about the seven programs, and maybe you don’t need to go into so much detail about each one, but how do they differ and why might someone you know, see benefit in one program versus the other?

Connie Zack:                 Yeah, so I was really skeptical we were designing this. I have to tell you this because I’m like an ultimate skeptic. I’m like, really is, are we going to hit difference? Let me tell you from personal experience, I have used all of them and I, I’ll be honest, I’d never did this and relaxation when I used that one. The least. I’m not usually focusing on a particular ambition. So sometimes if we have an anti aging program, I wouldn’t use the four. We go out for an event, you know, like on Saturday night I would go in there and my mom and then my skin just feels better. I feel I’m just more vibrant. It’s like an blowing, but that would be my reason for using that program. That program also really focuses heavily on the near infrared and so it is a cooler program. You have that intense cardiovascular heart beating, passive current ESSA conditioning, uh, experience that you look, for example, what the cardio further, which I use if I haven’t been using lately cause I’ve been partying but before I started this marathon hitting, I would use that a lot though.

Connie Zack:                 Same strength training and I didn’t get a run in or I didn’t get any type of cardiovascular. That is the longest program. It’s also the most, the intervals and the blends of the wavelengths. It’s very, very intensive. The way it works. Anybody, you can steal it and you’re in there, you can literally feel your heart increasing, your heart rate is higher than it would be an admit different program, which is great, you know, for cardiovascular conditions. And then there’s the detoxification program which is excellent for, you know exactly what it says, removing a toxic overload. And I will do that and I’ve been challenged cause I just found playing and just being, you know, getting ready to go to Las Vegas next to me. And it’s just with the air I feel much pure and I after that for a couple of different programs. Right now the pain… I’m using that a lot. It bands and stretching and really making sure that my runs are as productive as possible.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                And you, so you mentioned the relaxation one first. You said you’re not using it right now, but for so many people with pain, you know, deep relaxation is one thing that can help them and can help them start getting, you know, moving in the right direction. What, what is that, um, protocol involve?

Connie Zack:                 Well, it’d be lactation is, is great. It’s a great program. I just am very passionate about the specific pain relief program. So if somebody was suffering from pain, I would recommend them using the actual thing president because of the way that wave links work with the body. And you can feel your body respond to the way when sometimes for somebody who’s not familiar with this therapy, it takes a while for the healing wave links to get into your body because your body signs to it. So you would need to use it for me at least three times a week. And you’d want to use it for several weeks to get your body. It took me out four or five times until I started noticing, okay now you know, my body is responding much quicker than it was the first couple of times. So that’s what I would do. I would focus for a lot of people. I’ve been watching this regarding pain. I would use the pain program I was three times a week for as long as it, you know, long as you feel

Dr. Joe Tatta:                and then once someone’s feeling better, do they use it? Um, kind of prophylactically over the, over the period of time is as part of their life. And obviously yours you’re using it for marathon training but do people just use it for their general health and wellbeing?

Connie Zack:                 Yes, exactly. Or if they have like, like I mentioned the cardio program, I will use it instead of, you know, and I guarantee you after this run I will probably be using a lot more. Now I’m going to like not, not for a while. Um, and that’s great. You know, cause you really, it’s hard to imagine, like if you’re working out, it’s hard to really imagine it. We feel like we worked out after using the same one or even the signature form for the log. But you really do feel, and so exercise now it’s even better and we feel like you’re healing your body while you’re exercising, which is a great feeling. And so when you’re done, you go, um, you don’t feel like you’re hurting your body. You don’t feel natural and more purified and, and you blow. And everybody always says, Oh my gosh, I feel like I’m just making moaning and I look so much.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Yeah. So how many minutes is someone actually spend in the, in the spa? How many minutes duration and what are they typically feeling? Is it very hot? Is it, is it more soothing and warm? How does, what do they experience

Connie Zack:                 the experience range scene, 30 minutes of the 45 depending on what sort of YouTube or you can just go in there … But those are, the programs are set on specific time as far as how do you feel? It really depends on the program. Like the anti-aging line, you feel like your skin is pumping and it’s, it’s cooler. It’s still key, but it’s not like a just sweaty, refused, intense. It is more of a very gentle, um, radiant healing lumping like, um, like just do, doing something good for your mind. You know, depending on what you’re looking for has a different experience. That’s where things I love is because like having a trainer like yourself, you know, but that you’re pressing the button and they’re like, you know, doing the routine that’s right for you while you’re sitting there and responding to the labels.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Cause I think when people think of, you know, some kind of spa experience, they either think of a really seen like a steam spa where there’s a lot of steam all around them and it’s very moist or you think of it very kind of hot, dry type sauna. So this is, this is different than both of them,

Connie Zack:                 right? It’s neither one. There is no moisture in the air and you can breathe easily. That’s the biggest difference is we can take these big deep breaths. Like I do a lot of breathing and a lot of very, very, very deep breathing and yoga poses and it’s so easy to read. I have tried doing those same type of thing in deep breathing. Yeah. Traditional sauna like spa resort where the temperature is really hot and it’s hard. You know, it’s, it’s, it’s difficult to do that for me, that deep deep breath because it’s already, you feel oppressed a little bit anyway. Um, the moisture is great, you know, cause the seams has the feel. This just is more on yourselves and your body. And so this is just a whole body healing experience. This isn’t just like a quick get in, get out. Now you’ve sweat a little bit and you’re on your way. This is a transformation experience. I mean, like I said, we’ve proven that we can significantly lower your blood pressure. Okay. Big deal. And that’s hard to do. And gee, I was in the cardiovascular division. You spend millions and millions of dollars trying to change your blood pressure and trying to regulate your systems with medicine. And every time you do that and change something else in your body, you know, so it’s nice within Sunlighten you can normalize your body and regulate it without adversely affecting other parts.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Right? Yeah. No it’s a, it’s a really good point, especially around the blood pressure cause. So when people struggle with cardiovascular disease, so tell us what kind of practitioners have started to incorporate this into their practice.

Connie Zack:                 We have like yourself, we have a lot of manners then who have a lot of experts that focus on mold and line autoimmune disorders and have many wellness clinics across the world. We’re an international company and we also have some cancer clinics because of the way our product has been proven to increase it fortunate frontier and keep it versus same period of time that is in their research been very effective for helping them especially lie down model a portable unit helping sunlight solo. And that is been use a lot in those types of comics cause you’re lying down. How does out, so you’re getting therapy from your neck down and you’re getting that to slowly, those are some of the different practitioners. We have a lot of universities in the athletic facilities that use this for their athletes as well as in the professional,

Dr. Joe Tatta:                so people can maybe find them in their area in in a particular medical practice or in a wellness type setting or they can have them in their home, correct?

Connie Zack:                 Yes, correct. And having you home. Every time I’m in there, I’m always thinking this is ISIS. I mean, just to be locally here in my home and do this and the way I feel like I’m done. I feel like I can conquer the world now. I just feel like I have more energy. My brain, which is the hardest part right now, the SABIC managing everything. The brain is so much clearer. Like I have such great clarity. I feel lighter. No, I don’t feel heavy me. It. Sometimes when you’re in a traditional song or the scenes on it, you get out, you can feel this, you feel lighter, you feel like can have more energy to go do what you need to do. So yes, I would definitely recommend you have one in here in your home that you can’t, you don’t have the means then you can definitely go to a facility. But we do have a lot of people don’t think that they could put on because they think that they won’t have either the space or the movement where I size, we have everything everywhere. So we have the smallest one that like the lie down. Like I said, of course, that you could put anywhere or we have a very small stand up upright one all the way to very large.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                So how, how, what are the dimensions to the smaller upright one that someone may have in their home?

Connie Zack:                 Yeah, it’s less than four feet by four feet. So you’re talking is around three feet and change, I think on three things. And uh, you can fit in there. Same psychology, three in one. And you have the acoustic rectal surgery, I highly, highly recommend. That’s great for pain too because it helps to relax the brain. There’ve been studies done before and after and you show that where your brain is like stress and, and excited for you music consequences and say, if we’re just quiet, the music is pattern. Listen, you can’t track it. So it’s really forcing that range to just engage. It’s a scraper thing.

Dr. Joe Tatta:                Great. So you’ve given us lots of great information. Like I said, I’ve used it for detoxification for myself, um, as well as referred patients to it. But if people are interested to learn more about your product, how can they learn about it?
